Library Millage Renewal

What is the ballot language and who approved to have it placed on the ballot?
The Library Board of Commissioners requested to have the millage renewal placed on the November 2 ballot.  The Eastpointe Mayor and City Council approved this request.  Please click or tap on the Millage Proposal link for more information.

Millage Proposal
Will the library expand hours if voters approve the new millage?
Yes, plans are to restore hours during the week nights and add hours on Friday and Saturday.  Currently we are open Monday-Thursday 10:00-6:00, Friday 12:00-5:00 and Saturday 10:00-2:00.  If voters approve the millage and when additional staff is hired, hours will be Monday-Thursday 10:00-8:00, Friday and Saturday 10:00-5:00.
What is the millage rate and where do I find mine?
A millage rate is the rate at which property taxes are levied on property. A mill is 1/1000 of a dollar. Property taxes are computed by multiplying the taxable value of the property by the number of mills levied.

The millage rate can be found on the property tax statement or by contacting your city/township/village/county assessor's office or on their web site.  Home | City of Eastpointe | BS&A Online (bsaonline.com)
What will happen if the millage is not renewed?
The renewal will raise $527,111.00 and ensure that hours, services and programs will continue for the next five years.
Without the renewal staffing, hours, services and programs will be greatly reduced.
How does a millage rate work?
A millage rate is the tax rate used to calculate local property taxes. The millage rate represents the amount per every $1,000 of a property's assessed value. Assigned millage rates are multiplied by the total taxable value of the property in order to arrive at the property taxes.
