Sylvia Moore has been a resident of the City of Eastpointe for over 20 years. She has served on the Fence, Zoning and Signage Board of Appeals. She was appointed and served on the Planning Commission. Before running for councilwomen, she was an election chairperson for many years for the city of Eastpointe. Ms. Moore has also served as a Macomb County Sheriff Reserve on the Accessibility Compliance Enforcement Unit (ACE) which issue tickets to enforce handicapped parking violations.

Councilwoman Moore was accepted as a sheet metal worker apprentice with Sheet Metal Workers’ Local #80 and became the first African American female to receive a Journeymen’s card from the local. She went on to become a Licensed Residential Builder with the State of Michigan and begin renovating homes. She attended Lawrence Technological University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Construction Engineering and Management while raising her 6 children. Ms. Moore has worked at Wayne State University as a Construction Project Manager and recently completed classes taught by the United State Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). She is currently a superintendent, certified Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO), and a Quality Control Manager overseeing construction projects on military bases.

Councilwoman Moore is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW Detroit chapter) which brings together women involved in the many aspects of commercial real estate where they mentor young women through professional development programs, leadership development, industry research, and career outreach to help each other succeed professionally.
